How To Learn:

One-to-One Lessons

One-to-one lessons in the Alexander Technique offer a great way for you to take yourself forward and make changes in your life.

In the quiet of the teaching room, you’ll have plenty of time to discuss your needs with a qualified teacher and be guided towards a constructive outcome.

In the early stages of lessons you’ll spend a lot of time sitting and standing, but you’ll also be offered help with everyday activities like walking, lifting, and writing, or more specialist activities such as singing, or playing a musical instrument, according to your own interest and needs.

As your teacher talks to you and works on you with their hands you learn how to let go of tensions that you are creating — tensions that get in the way of what you want to do.

As you let go of the tensions, you can learn to attend to what it is you do to create them. You become more and more aware of how you are interfering with how things work best.

This growing awareness is part of learning the Alexander Technique.

Always, the focus of your lesson is how the Alexander Technique can help with your particular circumstances.

For example, if working at a desk, performing, meditating, or giving presentations is an everyday activity for you, then your teacher can help you to improve your skills in these specific areas also.

Better still, there are no exercises.

Life is mostly made up of standing, sitting, walking and the transitions between these states, so attending to these activities directly is the real way forward.

Improving how you give attention to what you do can help you make the most of the present moment.

This is especially true if it’s your habit to be lost in the past, worried about the future, or easily unsettled by what’s happening in your life right now.

The Alexander Technique is not a therapy so the practical skills you learn in a lesson you can apply to your life right away.

The Alexander Technique can help you with ALL forms of movement and stillness.

One-to-one lessons currently cost £31 and last for half an hour.

Online Alexander Technique lessons are also available, and you can find all the details here.

All PAAT teachers have completed a four year training course. They are fully insured to work with individuals or groups and are bound by PAAT’s Code of Conduct.
